So finally got around to looking at my F21s and the freq list - and realized I cannot operated in those.

Nor do any of my other radios - so I am radioless...

I am not sure why they chose to be in a range that they are.

above real military radios and below most consumer radios.

well I guess they should just state clearly what radios they aim to work with - namely Baofengs or whatever in a certain model.

Oh well - time to go old school and not worry about comms.

Hope they do not want to redirect vehicles once they are given their orders...

If you have a manpack, I'd love for my squad to have a direct line to you motor guys Smiley
No idea how realistic that is but hell I'll carry it if it means we get our kit to the right locations and can call for extract!

In other news WE FINALLY HAVE A MAP! I'll pm all you guys I know are going to avoid more forum trolling issues

Kickass! If shoobe has the time I know we'll want a map, probably be useful to get one for each of the three vehicles...

Printing maps for the motor transport company now, per Brett's direction.

Brett, bring some GMRS radios. If we haven't got anything else, at least we can talk to each other on a side channel. We're already bringing intra-squad radios. Funnily, REAL IISRs! That's what the 4008M is for. Sadly, I only have three and they probably don't have the range to talk to you guys across the field.

If you are short on F21s for this, tell me and I can pack one, but may need someone to program it so... more later if it happens.

Oh, and their FB page is full of deals, including things like Baofang pouches. They have a set of what they think is cool and if we're not up on it, we miss out. MURS Roll Eyes

So no way to program my F21s anyway...

Though tedious, there is a way to pushbutton program them. I can dig it up if you want.

If sure the software is good and safe, you can always pause the virus scan or whitelist the app.

I can't do it because my only windows box now is company issued. Cannot install stuff on it at all.

Just rechecked the weather, fcst seems quite stable. Cold front moving through the STL area today. MAY get some small areas of precip, so our area may be a little damp on arrival.

After that, no chance of rain so that's good.

Consistent temps for the operational time period
- Highs in the upper 50s, peaking between 2 - 5 pm
- Lows in the mid 30s, coldest after 5 am

That's cold enough it's not your imagination: it doesn't warm till an hour after dawn so if you rise with the sun, put on gloves, it's cold.

Humid overnight (70%) and with temps above freezing, expect to be cold and for exposed equipment to get heavy from dampness. Rely on your waterproof shell or bivy cover. Cover your stuff (and remind me to actually use my pack cover!) to avoid soaking with dew in the mornings. Expect frost in the mornings, especially in lower areas like where we may be setting patrol bases, etc.

Winds pretty minimal, 2-6 mph so in anything but the open and hilltops, nothing to worry about for ballistics or making us colder.

Around 1/4 sky cover, so moderately bright still. Except at night. Note times below, it's only out during the day.

                    SUN                  MOON
Day Rise  Set     BMNT  EENT  Rise  Set
      h m  h m     h m    h m    h m  h m
17  0612 1722   1017  2042   0515 1819
18  0613 1720   1110  2133   0516 1817
19  0614 1719   1200  2228   0517 1816

Actually, it comes up early enough it could cause a false sunrise, so don't get all excited about any 5:15 light in the sky.

OK - might be late but those staying at my place tonight - if I am not there the garage will be unlocked - so go ahead and make yourselves at home-ish.

Or take a walk around the property and get a little used to the terrain type.

Probably going to be at dinner with MSW staff and if I can get home in time from work may go down and get some trail scouting done at AO.
