I stopped off at Hoobers today with a paper map covered in scribble notes for maps.  That got Hoober moving on map update stuff while Z and I took apart the plotter and in 147.352 easy to follow steps managed to change the drive belt.  Hoober's got a few print heads on order and is knocking out some driver issues but should see it back up and in action soon.

Map changes are mostly done, he just needs to tidy things up and create the correct maps for each side by fiddling with the layer settings for each one and saving them as PDFs.

Here's the gist of what we have for changes coming on the new maps:

German names for towns.

No more commonality of road names on each side of the border.   As you cross the border, the names/numbers change.

updated road/trail information

Added in new buildings

Flipped sides

Cleaned up small stuff here and there.  (LOTS of small stuff)

Does that mean I should wait for new map to be released before printing out and possibly laminate the one I will use for East Wind?

It would be advisable.

While the old maps will work for terrain and border - lots of other details would be off.

Has there been any physical changes to the size of the AO?  I know Dewayne for a while was snatching up neighboring properties whenever the opportunity presented himself.  The current maps are 3 years old.  One day he's going to own the Casino, and Simple Simon's Pizza, and they will both be in play areas, I wager.

Just FYI, opening these in Preview rather than Acrobat seemed to disable whatever cropping layer you had. Or in any case the end result was that terrain and grid extended outside the "edge" of the map. In Acrobat it looks correct.

Actually, it seems to be loading data that doesn't normally appear on the map. Soviet layer, perhaps? Seems to depict individual tree growths and some other symbology I'm not familiar with.

The soviet layers are up now, check one and see if it matches up with what you're seeing on the nato map.

In the process of doing a write up on my experience (the story part of the AAR) for my site. Ok to upload one of the NATO maps so people can follow along?
