Volksgrenadiers  (Single day participants on the NATO side)

In order to allow potential participants who cannot manage to make it to East Wind as full time troops on the NATO side the opportunity to participate to a limited degree we have determined that we will add 6 slots per day for Volksgrenadiers on the NATO side. .   Slots are limited and will be filled on a first come, first serve basis.

Volksgrenadiers muster in at 08:00 and muster out at 18:00.  Volksgrenadiers MUST be on time vehicles are a VERY important asset that we cannot have sitting there waiting while you are at McDonalds.

Volksgrenadiers pay $15 per day as field fee.

Volksgrenadiers meals are not provided.  MREs may be purchased separately from supply for $5 per meal providing that there are not supply/demand constraints.

Volksgrenadiers may not check specialist equipment out from supply.

Volksgrenadiers must be a minimum of 16 years of age to attend.

On day 1 and day 9 of the event there is not an attendance cap and we will not charge a field fee.  Much of day 1 and day 9 will be spent setting up and taking down the camps, seeing set up and take down will be fairly impressive this year, we have a lot of really good equipment.

No on site camping will be provided this year although some very good free camping is available quite close by in Mark Twain National Forest.

To attend as a Volksgrenadier, you must have the following equipment when you arrive:

Era proper NATO uniform and weapon system that match.  Got an M16?  Then you should be wearing woodland.  Got a G36?  Wear Flectarn.  Got an L85?  Wear British DPM.    Please note that Multicam, ACU, desert tiger, etc are NOT era appropriate NATO uniforms.   Weapons that are completely era inappropriate such as the SCAR, FN2000,  the MP40 or the Thompson are not allowed if you have a question about your weapon system feel free to pm me and ask about it.

Low or mid cap mags for your weapon.  Hi-cap or box mags are not allowed unless they are being used in an approved support weapon.  Default approved support weapons are M249 SAW, and M60.  Others must be individually approved on a case by case basis.  You can bet that we are not going to be approving any MP5 or Glock 18c based support weapons, if it does not exist as a real world support weapon it will not be approved.

An at least plausibly era appropriate load bearing system.  We are not going to get too wound up about Volksgrenadiers having the exact system for their uniform or anything but at the same time, we are also not going to allow a person in a West German BGS uniform to show up wearing an Crye Armor Chassis.   Acceptable default for about any impression will be USGI Alice gear.

Cold/wet weather gear appropriate for the day’s weather.  If it is raining cats and dogs, have rain gear, if it is cold have cold weather gear etc.  If it is a bright sunny day, you are off the hook.

Boots (no tennis shoes)

Minimum of 2 liters water capacity on your person.  We will have water on site, you just need to be able to carry 2 liters of water with you into combat.

A FRS/GMRS radio capable of operating with CTCSS (subchannels like 2-2 4-2 etc)

A compass (need not be era correct, this is more of a safety issue)

Sealed rated goggles or mesh goggles of tighter than 20 mesh.

Dead rag

Medic rope (if you have armor or a helmet)

While we will not require a helmet or body armor we do greatly suggest it since without either a helmet or body armor you cannot be mediced in the field.  Body armor must be at least plausible for the impression you have and must not be modern “high speed’ armor.  Basically, if it has PALS webbing, we are probably not going to count it as armor.  Helmet is a similar situation, it must at least be plausible for the rest of your impression.  If you are going USGI, do not expect us to approve a WW2 German helmet.   MICH helmets, while not technically era correct do tend to blend in fairly well so a MICH with a cover would be acceptable for USGI.

Given the type of event this is and the level of labor and dedication spent by both organizers and attendees alike we feel that the Volksgrenadier equipment list is pretty reasonable.  If you disagree, please feel free to not attend.  Even at the day player level this event is not intended for everyone.  Not everybody is into this sort of thing and we certainly understand that.   Those who come looking for a Milsim event will get an experience like no other short of enlisting.

Volksgrenadiers must sign up to attend on the dates desired by March 12th 2009 so that we know who is coming when.  Payment will be made at the field each day just like a regular airsoft game.   Players MUST be signed up for the days they wish to attend.  We will not admit anyone who has not signed up in advance.

To register, email swayze@operationeastwind.com . Be sure to include the dates that you plan on coming out.

Remember that Thursday the 12th of March is the last day for Volksgrenadier signups.  We will not be allowing any walk on attendees this year.   You need to be signed up beforehand if you wish to attend East Wind II as a Volksgrenadier.
