We used to rent Mercedes Sprinter short buses for events up here from time to time.  They got good mileage and drove quite well.  I sort of hate the idea of paying to rent something that's just sitting in the parking lot 90% of the time but it might be worth looking at none the less.

Renting was certainly an option if I was unable to get the cargo van in time.  It would cost me $800, not counting gas, to rent a vehicle for 2 weeks.  I don't believe a one way rental was an option, as there's no Enterprise Rent a Car near Wyandotte OK.

Spank, I figure after days of packing and then on the other end after living with it all for nine days I won't likely want to look at my gear for the ride home.  I don't think we're separate vacations mad at each other yet, but we'll probably need therapy to comfortably share the house.

If additional seating is viable for the Man Van Mk2 that's ideal, hopefully I can keep up on the wacky with Coop and Spank.  Let me know if you're having trouble sourcing a suitable junkyard seat, I know of a handful of spots, one possibly even still a You pull it, over in PA where I grew up.

Oh and Coop, congrats on the G3 looked awesome and I'm glad to see it go to someone who'll use it.

But think about it....if we get a sprinter or a ford cargo van, we can get 8 people in there or so and split the cost.   The idea of cross country trip with van full of craziness sounds like a lot of fun. Grin

It's actually the opposite. After nine days of wearing your stuff, you'll love it like never before...but the smell you probably won't be a fan of...

You won't notice the smell unless you ignore your gear for 3 or 4 days after you get back. Significant others WILL notice though, and will not be pleased.

Georgians are 100% the Mexicans of that part of the world.

And I'm not Ukrainian, I'm just from there.

I don't know how safe or legal that is...

I know there must be 1 seat per person.  It's a 2 seater van.  Getting all the cargo in is no problem, I'm sure room could be made for a 3rd person to sleep.

I could swing along, with 2 or 3 in the car, pick up another passenger and transfer a bunch of cargo into the van, potentially.

A bit north of Albany, NY; three hours drive to NYC, which isn't too out of the way.

Awesome, if swinging through NJ is a possibility I'm in need of a spot for me.  My gear should be handled in the man van, so I'll be traveling light.

@snapcracklepop

I was replyin to your PM, but realized that since this applies to multiple parties, it may as well be posted publically.

Catch22 and I are starting in Albany. The shortest route for us (without tolls) is to take I-88 west to Erie, PA; then cut south to Columbus, OH; and continue from there.

Heading south to meet up in south Jersey adds about 150 miles to the trip, which is acceptable if it means splitting gas price among more passengers. From what I've gathered, we have in the northeast:

myself with a sedan,
catch22 with a subcompact;
coop in South PA with a big van;
snapcracklepop on Long Island with a little car and mediocre mileage;
Huh

I get 33mph and easily have room for four to sit comfortably, but not much luggage room; I'm not even sure that my trunk can hold both my own and catch22's gear.

If we link up with Coop's van, we can certainly store stuff in there, and use my car for carrying personnel only, including anyone who needs to take a nap and drive the second or third shift.

Coop and Snapcracklepop (from here on out aka "Snapple") are both in Southern NJ. Coop for sure, and I'm fairly confident Snapple is at the very least NJ.

I am in NYC. With no vehicle of my own what so ever.

The Man Van Mk.II is pending a bench seat.
Though, I am still promoting the Mexican way.

Last year we drove through Columbus, OH.
