Title: Canadians Flying In
Post by: reaper39 on December 09, 2011, 09:35:21 am
Just wanted to see what options we have. We are looking at flying into Kansas City on Thursday. What is the best way for 5 players and kit to make it to the AO?

I've seen pricing of around $520, return, on Delta, from Winnipeg to Tulsa, with a single stopover in MSP.

We've got tons of transport options from Kansas City and/or St Louis.   In fact, we actually have more vehicles than drivers in Kansas City at least so more people here works out just dandy for us.

We can absolutely get that worked out no problem.

You guys center of gravity seems to be Winnepeg right?

That's a little less than 1000 miles from Wyandotte so that's actually not that bad of a drive.  $520 per person buys a lot of fuel if you're car pooling.

Flying makes most sense if it's a time press obviously and we can absolutely get you guys taken care of transport wise if that's what you'd rather do it just seems like a lot of money.

i have plenty of extra lodging available for anyone coming in from out of town and needs a place to crash for a day/night.
I am still in limbo as to my availability to even get time off for the event. march 10th may be my last day at work if time isint approved,,,,,and no i aint kidding, just gotta get a lead on a new job first.

I would really check into flying into KC over Tulsa. Portland to KC was a couple hundred cheaper, though, with a couple hour lay over in Detroit...(So fly past KC and then come back?? hah.).

Landing fees in Kansas City are a lot lower than many places so KC seems to be a much cheaper place to fly into than most.

That goes for me as well. Anyone driving from points north who may want to stop and crash in Topeka are welcome to.

We are split. There is half our group in Winnipeg and the other half is coming out of Edmonton Alberta. So I am going to go ahead and make arrangements for our flights out of Edmonton to Kansas City.

Either way, once you get to the KC area there is more than enough transport.  Between the 3-4 M35a2s, the 3-4 Daves, plus the CUCVs, and Dodge 880s there is plenty of seat space, don't even mention cargo capacity.

In the group of vehicle owners here in KS, we are literally approaching 2 mil-trucks per owner.

Thanks all. I am very happy to have found this group of people. We will shore up our dates and places we are staying so we can be ready to go.

Good to know. I was going to ask at some point.
Depending on job situation at the time, cutting back on travel time may be needed so I was considering flying over driving time.

Also - while it adds time via traveling by car/truck etc - St. Louis is also an option for flying in.

Not sure if the flights would be drastically cheaper or not.

Just to jump on this thread, I too may well be flying in depending on the number of other east coasters driving out.

Would Thursday be too early to arrive meaning I'd need to find crash space or could someone be kept in the EW family or set to work if they arrive on Thursday?

True, but like I said, it just depends on if I'm working by then.
I'd like to drive as I've never been off the west coast.

Speaking for St Louis area - we can get you Thursday and put you to work.

Also we convoy out Friday morning or Thursday night anyway so - not too early at all.

All you need to do is make friends with an Air Force pilot who needs flight hours....and either know how to pack a chute or make friends with a rigger LOL.  Remember, it's not the fall that kills - it's rapid deceleration syndrome that kills.
